radiology
services

We have a digital x-ray suite offering high quality digital x-ray services for our emergency patients as well as referred patients. Most of the time our emergency doctors can obtain a radiographic diagnosis from the x-rays immediately but we can also obtain a STAT consultation from a board-certified radiologist within 30 minutes if necessary.

We also offer CT scans for pets. Our multi-slice CT scanner is the equivalent of that found in most human hospitals and can obtain high quality scans in less than 20 seconds in most cases, which minimizes time under anesthesia or sedation for your pet.

Common uses of the CT scanner include:

  • Trauma (complicated fractures, spinal trauma, and soft tissue)
  • Cancer staging and finding tumors
  • Surgical planning for tumors, hepatobiliary disease, and more
  • Diagnosing blood clots
  • Neurologic disease (intervertebral disc disease, tumors, Wobbler’s syndrome, etc.)
  • Congenital orthopedic disease (OCD lesions, dysplasia, etc.)
  • Diagnosing liver shunts and much more…

We also offer comprehensive ultrasound services. Ultrasound is a valuable bedside test used by all of our emergency doctors in many emergency cases but we also offer full diagnostic abdominal ultrasound exams and our board-certified critical care specialist also performs echocardiograms (heart ultrasound) for common heart diseases in both dogs and cats.

RRAEH also has a high definition video endoscope to allow minimally invasive removal of ingested foreign material from the esophagus and stomach. We now offer rhinoscopy services to evaluate the nasal cavity for foreign material (inhaled grass, seeds, etc., and to obtain biopsies for other nasal disease such as tumors. This is often combined with a CT scan of the nasal cavity for the best diagnosis.

Most of these services are available 24/7 for emergency cases. In certain stable or complex cases, it is best to have your primary veterinarian contact us and fill out the referral form to streamline getting a diagnosis for your pet.
