THE RRAEH TEAM

At Red River Animal Emergency Hospital and Referral Center, we are passionate about the health and well-being of all animals. We’re all pet owners ourselves, so we understand how overwhelming it can seem when your pet is injured or ill. Our mission is to provide your pet with compassionate, experienced emergency or critical care whenever it’s needed, day or night, weekdays, weekends, and holidays.

Doctors

Andy Carver, DVM DACVECC

Dr. Andy Carver is the only board-certified specialist in emergency and critical care in North Dakota. He grew up in Minot and attended UND. Dr. Carver graduated from the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine in 2012. He completed a rotating internship at Colorado State University, then specialized and completed a 3-year residency in Emergency and Critical Care from Michigan State University. He was faculty at the University of Florida Veterinary Teaching Hospital prior to moving back to North Dakota and joining our team in late 2018. Dr. Carver is passionate about autoimmune blood disorders, heart disease, sepsis, trauma, and kidney disease. He also has advanced training at one of the few hemodialysis centers for pets in America, as well as mechanical ventilation (respiratory therapy). He has published research in multiple journals and lectured both nationally and internationally.

Dr. Carver enjoys spending time with his wife, their dogs, and family. His hobbies include enjoying the great outdoors, world traveling, and is excited to be back in the great state of North Dakota.

Chrissy Krell, DVM

Dr. Chrissy Krell was born and raised in Wadena, MN.  She graduated from Wadena-Deer Creek High School and completed a Bachelor’s in Equine Science (Pre-Vet) from the University of Minnesota – Crookston in 2008.  She attended the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Missouri – Columbia from 2008-2012.  Following graduation in 2012, she began working in private practice in Park Rapids, MN.  In addition, she started Krell Veterinary Services in 2012 which has recently transformed into the busy Paws & Prairie Animal Clinic.  She also has been practicing emergency medicine at the Red River Animal Emergency Hospital since April 2014.

Dr. Krell loves spending time with her three busy children (Aden, Logan, and Ryanne), her husband, horses, barn cats, and the family dogs, Princess Leia and Sonic.

Melissa Hensel, DVM

Dr. Melissa Hensel graduated from Ross University in 2012. She joined Red River Animal Emergency Hospital and Referral Center in December 2017. Outside of work, her favorite things to do are ride horse and play with her dogs. On her farm, she has 3 dogs- Rolex the Boxer, Elsa the mix, Boyd the Rottweiler, and her foster dog Burghley the lab, 4 cats- Tink, Huck, Jo, and Pippy, Derby the miniature donkey, and 6 horses.

Jeff Kramer, DVM

Dr. Jeff Kramer grew up on his parents’ cattle and sheep ranch near Towner, ND. After completing high school, he attended North Dakota State University, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in microbiology and minoring in biotechnology. While attending NDSU, Dr. Kramer was a member of the NDSU Rodeo Team and was active with the NDSU Rodeo Club, serving as vice-president and president.

After graduating from NDSU, Dr. Kramer was accepted to Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine, where he obtained his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in May of 1999.

Dr. Kramer then accepted a position at Kindness Animal Hospital in Grand Forks, ND, where he was employed as an associate veterinarian. While practicing in Grand Forks, Dr. Kramer worked with both small and large animals.

In September of 2006, Dr. Kramer accepted the position he currently holds as associate veterinarian at Red River Animal Emergency Hospital and Referral Center. While working at Red River Animal Emergency Hospital and Referral Center, Dr. Kramer has also held positions as a part-time instructor at both North Dakota State University and Minnesota School of Business.

Dr. Kramer currently lives in Fargo with his wife, four boys, and the family cat, Junior. When he is not at the emergency clinic, he enjoys spending time with his wife and family.

Julia Underwood, DVM

Dr. Julia Underwood graduated from Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2010. After veterinary school, she completed an intensive year of internship training with a focus on emergency medicine in San Leandro, CA. She practiced in both emergency medicine and general practice in California for several years before making a home in Fargo. Dr. Underwood joined RRAEH in March of 2016.

Dr. Underwood loves all creatures, but particularly enjoys working with feline patients. She enjoys all aspects of emergency medicine, but especially loves endocrine emergencies and trauma. Away from the clinic, she enjoys the outdoors, art, spending time with her husband, and playing with her two cats and red ear slider turtle.

Pimploy Jong, DVM

Dr. Pimploy Jong joined the RRAEH team in fall 2018. She graduated from the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine in 2012. She completed an emergency internship at Wisconsin Veterinary Referral Center in 2013. Dr. Jong continued to work as an emergency doctor at BluePearl Veterinary Partners in Michigan and was faculty at the University of Florida Veterinary Teaching Hospital before moving to North Dakota. Dr. Jong loves all aspects of emergency medicine, but has particular interest in trauma, abdominal surgery, toxicities, and shock.

In her off-clinic time, Dr. Jong enjoys spending time with her husband and dogs. Dr. Jong’s hobbies include painting, cooking, watching movies, and world traveling.

Ben Stegman, DVM

Dr. Ben Stegman is a native of north eastern North Dakota, and he owned a practice in his hometown prior to joining Red River Animal Emergency Hospital and Referral Center in 2013. He completed his undergraduate training at North Dakota State University and then attended Iowa State University where he received his DVM degree in 2007.

He completed additional training after veterinary school in Veterinary Medical Acupuncture at Colorado State University, and he is a member of the International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management as well as the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society. Dr. Stegman enjoys all aspects of emergency and critical care medicine, but particularly is interested in pain management, trauma, and acute care.

Dr. Stegman lives on a small farm with his wife and five children where they enjoy raising pure bred Dexter cattle, American Guinea Hogs, Chickens, Gaited horses, and English Shepherds. Dr Stegman’s hobbies include cheesemaking, charcuterie, and playing the guitar and banjo.

Alli Griep, DVM

Dr. Alli Griep was born in Spain and grew up around the Middle East. She learned to love animals while spending summers on her grandfather’s dairy farm in northeast, Iowa leading to a career in veterinary medicine. She graduated with a DVM in 2015 from Ross University.

After graduation, she took a position at Mid River Veterinary Clinic in Chamberlin, SD. She joined the RRAEH team in May of 2018. She currently lives on the farm with her husband, three dogs (Hank, Bear, and Old Lady), two horses (Chief and Chip), and one rescue cat (Fred). Aside from working with animals, her favorite activities include camping, trail riding, running, and traveling abroad. Dr. Alli loves all parts of emergency medicine, but especially obstetric emergencies and neo-natal care.

Ashlyn Kuklock, DVM

Dr. Ashlyn Kuklock graduated from Ross University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2017, she joined our team in summer of 2019. Her favorite thing about veterinary medicine is being able to make a positive difference in an animal’s life.

Dr. Kuklock’s pets include two dogs – Caesar & Bailee, and four cats – Jaxson, Brayson, Ninja, and Cotton. In her free time, Dr. Kuklock enjoys yoga, cross stitching, going to theatre plays, and walking her dogs.

Veterinary Technicians

Amy E., LVT

Amy is originally from Grand Rapids, MN. She graduated from NDSU in May 2005 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Veterinary Technology. Amy has been a member of our team ever since the clinic opened in December 2005. Amy also works with Dr. Grozdanic, a Veterinary Ophthalmologist.

In her spare time, Amy enjoys spending time with her husband, Dan, and daughters, Lilly and Hadley. They have three cats (Loafie, Bobber, and Marshmallow), a Chocolate Lab (Chip), and a French Bulldog/Cavalier mix (Caramel Roll).

Carlene, LVT

Carlene is originally from Strasburg, ND and has received her Bachelors of Science degree in Veterinary Technology from NDSU. She has been a part of the Red River Animal Emergency Hospital team since August 2013. Carlene enjoys helping with the hospital’s in-house blood bank.

She has a Doberman pinscher named Mercedes and fosters through the Doberman Rescue of Minnesota. Carlene enjoys running, hunting, gardening, spending time with friends and family, and going home to the farm.

Jessica E., LVT

Jessica grew up in Appleton, MN. She moved to Fargo/Moorhead to attend NDSU and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Veterinary Technology. Jessica has always loved animals and knew she wanted to get a degree that allowed her to work with animals. Jessica has been working at the Red River Animal Emergency Hospital and Referral Center since 2016 and enjoys working here because there is always something new to learn each day.

Jessica has an energetic Jack Russel mix named Winnie that keeps her busy! In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, going on adventures, spending times with friends and family, watching movies, and reading.

Ally, VT

Ally is from Cavalier, North Dakota. She graduated from North Dakota State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Veterinary Technology. Ally joined the Red River Animal Emergency Hospital team in August of 2015.

She enjoys spending her free time with her family and friends. Ally has many animal children including: Cira and Andi the horses, Hank the yellow lab, Elsa the Australian Shepherd, Camilla the Border Collie, and Meow Meow the cat.

Brooke, VT

Brooke is from Fargo, ND and joined our team in June 2018. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Veterinary Technology from North Dakota State University and is currently Pre-Vet at NDSU. Her favorite thing about veterinary medicine is the feeling of seeing our treatments and care for our patients work, educating others about veterinary medicine, and learning about it! 

In her free time, Brooke likes to work at the NDSU sheep barn, watch Netflix, and play video games. Brooke’s pets include Bodie the Golden Retriever and Nagini the Western Hognose Snake.

Kortni, LVT

Kortni is from Detroit Lakes, MN. She attended Globe University for veterinary technology. Kortni joined our team in April of 2019. Her favorite thing about veterinary medicine is expanding her skills and every day is different.

In her free time, Kortni enjoys camping, gardening and spending time with her husband and 3 sons. Her pets included Hachi the German Shepherd mix, Arrow the Great Dane, Thea the toy poodle mix, 2 cats, Winston and Monster and Roberta the sheep.

April, LVT

April joined the RRAEH team in August 2019. She is from Vita Manitoba, Canada and graduated from Globe University with a degree in Veterinary Technology. In her free time, April enjoys swimming, biking, running, & spending time with her pets. April’s pets include Zoey the cat and Kimber & Remmy the dogs. 

Sarah S., LVT

Sarah is originally from Fesenden, ND. She graduated from NDSU in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Veterinary Technology. She joined our team in August 2008. She enjoys gardening, reading, and spending time with friends and family. Her pets include 2 cats, Dobby and Nimbus, Pinto the Chihuahua mix, and Mera the German Shepherd mix.

Nicole J., VT

Nicole is from Champlin, Mn. She moved to the FM area in 2008 and graduated from Globe University with her degree in Veterinary Technology in December of 2013. She joined our team in April of 2014 and enjoys every minute of it! Nicole also works with Dr. Grozdanic, a Veterinary Ophthalmologist.

In her free time, Nicole enjoys fishing, boating, going to the cabin, and always enjoys a good scary movie. Nicole has a Russian Tortoise named Tippet and also loves to foster pets until they find their forever home.

Bree, LVT

Bree is from Minnetonka, MN and moved to Fargo in the fall of 2012. She attended NDSU for Animal/Equine Science and Globe University for Veterinary Technology. Bree joined our team in the fall of 2014. She has a special interest in emergency medicine and critical care.

In her free time, Bree enjoys reading, photography, gardening, playing with her dogs, and spending time with her friends and family. She and her husband have two cats (Zoey and Smokey), a Black Lab (Gauge), and a Golden Retriever (Griffin).

Patty, VT

Patty is from Bogota, Colombia and moved to the Fargo area in 2007. She joined Red River Animal Emergency Hospital and Referral Center in August of 2018. Her favorite thing about Veterinary Medicine is Internal Medicine because there is always something new to learn.

In her free time, Patty likes to do crafts, spend time outdoors with her hubby, and FaceTime with family in Colombia. Patty and her husband have 4 rescued pets; Toby the Minpin Chihuahua mix and Victorino, Vicky, and Thomas the cats.

Chris, LVT

Chris is from Langden, ND. She joined the RRAEH team in 2018. She has a degree in Veterinary Technology from NDSU. Her favorite things about veterinary medicine are; learning new things, using her skills, and that not every day is the same. 

In her free time, Chris enjoys camping, motorcycling, crafting, spending time with her family, and keeping up with her kids. Chris’ pets include Cloee the Shih Tzu, Skeeter the Caviler, Benny the Shih Tzu, and Steve the turtle. 

Lauren, LVT

Lauren is from Fargo, ND and joined the RRAEH team in 2019. She graduated from NDSU with a Bachelor of Science degree in Veterinary Technology. Her favorite thing about veterinary medicine is educating clients about veterinary medicine, making connections with clients and their pets, and learning new things each day.

Lauren’s pets include 3 cats – Dallas, Nibble, & Luna, and 2 dogs – Jacks the Terrier/Chihuahua mix and Harley the Border Collie. In her free time, Lauren enjoys playing vollyball, going to the lakes, watching movies, listening to music, & hanging with friends.

Lindsay, VT

Sarah D., LVT

Sarah is from Moorhead, MN.  She graduated from Globe University in March 2013 with a degree in Veterinary Technology.  She joined the Red River Animal Emergency Hospital and Referral Center team Fall of 2013.

Outside of work, Sarah enjoys spending time with family and friends, fishing, and fostering kittens. Sarah’s pets include an English Shepherd named Nakia (that Sarah thinks is the best dog!), a French Bulldog named Nigel (who is the best pig!), Papa Neut and Eo the felines.

Morgan E., LVT

Morgan is from Bloomington, Minnesota and moved to the FM area in 2012. She graduated from Globe University’s Veterinary Technology program December 2015. She started working at the Red River Animal Emergency Hospital summer of 2014 and became a Veterinary Technician after graduation.

Her favorite part of working here is seeing the improvement of animals after their time at the clinic. Morgan works with Dr. Grozdanic, a Veterinary Ophthalmologist, and the hospital’s in-house blood bank. She has two dogs, Gus Gus and a rescued Golden Retriever named Jimmy. She also has two cats named Sarabi Wasabi and Cynder

Ashley, LVT

Ashley is from Bismarck, ND and graduated from NDSU with a degree in Veterinary Technology with a minor in Zoology. The thing she loves most about veterinary medicine is learning and understanding the medicine and being able to apply what she knows to animal health.

Ashley likes to read fiction and play Dungeons & Dragons and video games in her free time. Her pets include Persephone the Mini Australian Shepherd and Bubastis the cat.

Jordain, VT

Jordain is from Wahpeton, ND. She joined the Red River Animal Emergency Hospital and Referral Center in June of 2017. She graduated from North Dakota State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Veterinary Technology. In her free time she enjoys spending time with family and friends, watching movies, and going hiking. She has a cat named Maloney. 

Morgan B., LVT

Morgan is from Fergus Falls, MN. She has a degree in Veterinary Technology from Ridgewater College and joined Red River Animal Emergency Hospital and Referral Center in December 2018. Morgan’s favorite thing about veterinary medicine is all of our patients.

In her free time, Morgan enjoys spending time with family and doing anything outdoors. Her pets include Sasha the Bulldog mix and Millie the Shepherd mix

LaShea, LVT

LaShea joined RRAEH in 2019. She is from Norfolk, NE and moved to Fargo to attend NDSU. Her favortie thing about Veterinary Medicine is nursing all the patients to get them back to good health, she also enjoys learning new things every day!

In her free time, LaShea likes to relax with close friends and family and watch Netflix with her dog Milo. She also enjoys spending time outdoors and going to the lakes during the summer months. 

Veterinary Assistants & Receptionists

Amy B., CVA

Amy started working at Red River Animal Emergency Hospital and Referral Center in March 2007. She has her bachelor’s degree in Microbiology from NDSU. In her spare time, she enjoys the outdoors; especially running and spending time with her family, friends, and pets.

Naomi, Reception/Assistant

Naomi is from Glyndon, Minnesota. She went to farrier school in Missouri and moved back to the area after that. Her pets include Bella the cat and Crazy Casey the Golden Retriever. Her favorite thing about veterinary medicine is helping animals feel better (and getting to cuddle adorable pets is a plus).

In her free time, Naomi spends time with her family and pets. She also loves to read, paint, and do anything outdoorsy-especially fishing!

Ella, Reception/Assistant

Ella is from Fargo and joined Red River Animal Emergency Hospital and Referral Center June of 2018. She graduated from NDSU in 2019 with a Bachelors of Science degree in Animal Science and a minor in Zoology. In her free time, Ella likes to spend time at the lake relaxing or fishing.

Her Favorite things about veterinary medicine are learning about exotic species and the unique medical care they require, and being there for owners and pets through tough and stressful moments. Ella’s pets include Zulu the black Lab, Keekee the cat, and BunBun the rabbit.

Jessica M., Assistant

Jessica is from both Jamestown & Fargo. She joined our team in summer of 2018. Her favorite things about veterinary medicine are getting to work with animals, there is always something new to learn, and no two days are ever the same. 

Jessica has a mini Dachshund, Cupid, who is the love of her life and spoiled rotten. In her free time, Jessica enjoys attending concerts, house and yard projects, spending time with her fiance, and taking cupid for her rides.  

Victoria, Reception

Victoria is from Fargo and started at Red River Animal Emergency Hospital and Referral Center in the fall of 2018. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and is currently studying Pre-Vet at NDSU. Victoria’s favorite thing about veterinary medicine is being able to support owners through difficult times and helping animals get the care they need.

In her free time, Victoria enjoys hanging out with Gracie Lou, her doggie, fostering for 4 Luv of Dog, going to the lake, and traveling to the East Coast to visit friends.

Rylee, Assistant

Rylee is from Big Lake, MN and joined RRAEH in 2019. She is currently attending NDSU in their Veterinary Technology program. Her favorite thing about veterinary medicine is scrubbing in on surgeries and the great family she works with.

In her free time, Rylee likes to play basketball and go to her cabin. Back home, Rylee has a torti cat named Carmel, who is her favorite.

Sydney, Assistant

Sydney joined our team early 2019, she is from Bettendorf, IA. She is currently attending NDSU for pre veterinary studies. Her favorite thing about veterinary medicine is getting to be around different animals and watching them grow healthier and stronger while they are in our care.

Outside of work, Sydney likes to travel, scuba dive, play tennis, read and write, and partake in activism. Her pets include Lucy the Russian Tortoise and Ollie the Goldendoodle. 

Amber, Reception/Assistant

Amber is originally from Hibbing, MN. She moved to the area to attend Concordia College and graduated with a degree in Biology. In her spare time, Amber enjoys training horses and teaching riding lessons, spending time with her dogs and horses (she has 4 of each!), and reading.

Larissa, Reception/Assistant

Larissa is from Fargo, ND. She joined our team in 2018. Her favorite thing about veterinary medicine is getting to see the patients go home happy and healthy.

In her free time, Larissa enjoys working out, hunting, snowboarding, and playing with her puppies. Her pets include Berkley the Golden Retriever and Moose the Corgi mix.

Courtney, Reception/Assistant

Courtney is from Fargo, ND. She is currently attending the NDSU pre-vet program with a major in Animal Sciences. Her favorite things about veterinary medicine is exotic radiology and small animal oncology.

In her free time she enjoys swimming at the lakes and going to the parks with her dogs Buddy the Yellow Lab and Ellie the Aussie.

Megan, Assistant

Megan is from Thief River Falls, MN. She moved to Fargo in 2014. She has a degree in Animal Science from NDSU. Megan joined Red River Animal Emergency Hospital and Referral Center in the fall of 2018. Her favorite things about veterinary medicine are critical care medicine and learning new things every day.
In her free time, Megan likes to travel, make crafts, spend time with friends and family, and watch scary movies. Megan has a Lab mix named Liebe that she enjoys to taking to the dog park.

Katie, Reception

Katie is from Barnesville, MN. She joined the Red River Animal Emergency Hospital in 2018. Katie has a Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice & Psychology from MSUM, she is also currently in the Veterinary Technology program at NDSU. Her favorite thing about veterinary medicine is knowing we are here to heal critical animals, which allows owners and their pets more time together as a family.

In her free time, Katie enjoys long naps, going to the lake, road trips with her husband, and going to concerts. Katie’s pets include Brody the Bernese Mountain Dog, Cassie the Shih Tzu/Dachshund, and Diamond the Chiweenie.  

Chelsey, Assistant

Chelsey joined Red River Animal Emergency Hospital and Referral Center June of 2016. She is from Sidney, MT and is a nursing student at NDSU. She enjoys working with critical patients, and learning about sterile procedures and diagnostics.

Chelsey loves watching and playing hockey, riding horse, and cooking in her free time. Back home are her 3 dogs and 2 cats: Shelby, Axel, Cena, Manly, and Harley.

McKenzie, Reception

McKenzie is from West Fargo, ND. She joined our team spring of 2019. Her favorite thing about veterinary medicine is being able to help animals and make sure they’re happy and healthy. “Pets give us so much love, keeping them happy and healthy is the least we can do.” 

In her free time, McKenzie likes to read and spend time with her pets. Her pet family includes Copper the Golden Retriever, Toothless the Bearded Dragon, and Opal the Chiweenie.

Chell, CVA

Chell moved back to Fargo 4 years with her son, Orion. She a certified veterinary assistant working at two wonderful clinics. When she’s not working, she is slowly remodeling her home and trying to teach her son how to drive! She has two dogs, Tank and Peaches, and two cats, Sam and Agnes, to complete her little family.

Breanna, Reception/Assistant

Breanna joined Red River Animal Emergency Hospital and Referral Center in March of 2018. She is from Fargo, ND and is attending NDSU for Veterinary Technology. Her favorite thing about veterinary medicine is educating pet parents and helping animals to be happy and healthy.

Breanna’s pets include Ruger the Australian Shepherd, Kujo and Suka the Crested Geckos, and several rats. In her free time, Breanna likes to cuddle with her dog.

Nancé, Reception

Nancé is from Devils Lake, ND. She joined our team in the summer of 2018. Her favorite thing about veterinary medicine is helping all the animals and their humans through difficult times. 

In her free time, Nancé likes to read, craft, and spend time with her grandkids and friends. Nancé is also “Nana” to Bella and Sophie the dogs.

Alex, Assistant

Alex is from Park Rapids, MN and joined the Red River Animal Emergency Hospital in May 2019. His favorite thing about veterinary medicine is being able to be here for critical patients and watching them become healthier. In his free time, Alex likes to go to the lake and spend time with family and his cat, Purdy.

Zac, Assistant

Zac joined the RRAEH team May 2019. He is from Bismarck, ND and moved to Fargo in 2013. Zac is currently in the Veterinary Technology program at NDSU. His favorite thing about veterinary medicine is successfully treating pets and reuniting them with their owners once they are healthy again. 

In his free time, Zac enjoys playing bass guitar, video games, listening to music, and watching hockey – especially the Toronto Maple Leafs. Zac’s furry family includes a dog named Cash.

Jaime, Reception

Jaime is from Centerville, MN. She joined the RRAEH team in May 2019. Jaime has a Bachelor of Science degree in Ecology & Evolutionary Biology from MSUM. Her favorite thing about veterinary medicine is the variety of medical care the field is able to provide – from emergency to dentistry to ophthalmology. She has a special interest in orthopedic surgery.

Jaime’s pets include Ingrid a black Domestic Long Hair cat and Anya a Domestic Short Hair cat, both are rescues from Homeward Animal Shelter. In her free time, Jaime likes to read, spend time outdoors (hunting, fishing, camping), and trying new recipes.

Tyra, Assistant

Tyra is from Hitterdal, MN and joined RRAEH in 2019. She is currently in the Veterinary Technologyy Program at NDSU. Her favorite thing about veterinary medicine is continuing to learn every day. 

In her free time, Tyra likes to go to the lake and spend time with friends & her pets. Tyra’s pet family includes Jed the Lab mix and Dennis the kitten.

Bill, Hospital Administrator

Bill has been Red River Animal Emergency Hospital and Referral Center’s Practice Manager since 2011. He likes warm weather better than cold, happy rather than sad, and he LOVES animals.
